Year 1 2022 - 2023
Welcome to Year One!
Mrs Chorlton is your teacher in Year 1. Working alongside Mrs Chorlton are Miss Jones and Mrs Yates.
In Year 1, you will carry on your learning journey from Reception and there are lots of exciting activities to keep you busy in our classroom.
Here are some the units of work you will cover over the year:
Science: All about me, animals, materials, plants
History: Toys from the past, castles, famous explorers
Geography: Weather, local area, United Kingdom
Just like the rest of school, we use Maths No Problem for maths.
We also have daily phonics lessons using Read, Write Inc phonics. Learning to read is very important, so please make sure you read at home as much as you can!
In literacy we explore traditonal tails and high quality texts such as: The Man on the Moon, Beegu and Owl Babies. We use these books as a basis for our writing, the main focus is to write in full sentences using your phonics for spelling and starting to use basic punctucation.
Wednesday and Thursday are PE days please come to school in your PE kit on these days
Homework is given out every Friday and to be returned by the following Thursday
Reading books are changed on a Monday and kept all week, please bring in your reading diary daily so we can award house points to thoes children reading 3+ times a week
