Year 6 Autumn Term

Date: 21st Jan 2019 @ 3:05pm

fWhen we started year 6 we all felt nervous but excited at the same time. When Heidi heard who her teachers were going to be she was so glad to get Miss Dyson again because she is amazing.  Everyone also felt less nervous when they realised Mrs Simmons was again going to be her class teacher. Mrs Simmons has been our teacher now for three years. All of Year 6 were worried about the prospect of SATs but Mrs Simmons and Miss Jackson have reassured the class that there is nothing to worry about and they will have lots of support.  We feel we have settled into year 6 perfectly; now most of us feel excited to move on because the teachers are very approachable if we need any help.

In year 6, we started behaviour points. When we did our halloween treat however many behaviour points we had we could spend on sweets, films and art with our art teacher. The more points we had the more you could buy and we had to have 50 points to get in. You get ten points per week and you can lose them if you are not good. We also had a christmas treat but that was more expensive as we had a chocolate fountain!

So far in topic we have been learning about the Amazing Americas including North and South America. We planned a holiday and we used vr headsets to visit the Grand Canyon. In art, we made the Statue of Liberty. In science it has been very exciting we have did lots of experiments on electric before that we did micro-organisms, which means a disease and germs. We did an important piece of work about the WW1 - we wrote poems, made poppies and created videos on the ipad which were shown in our assembly.

When we went swimming, on the first session we were all very excited! The first thing they did was line us all up on the side of the pool and we took it in turns to swim across the shallow end to place us into ability groups. Some of us were in .the higher group so we went to the deep end and the first thing we did was get into groups of 3 and then line up t the side of the pool. Once that was done we numbered our selves 1,2 or 3 and then all the ones swan a length then the twos then the threes. We did lots of different strokes and on the last session we all jumped into the deep end together swam a length and then had free time in the shallow end.

There has been 3 sport tournaments in year 6 the tournaments have been football, table tennis and indoor athletics tournament. We finished 3rd in the indoor athletics tournament, and in the football tournament we finished about 5th and in the table tennis we finished 4th and at the indoor tournament we got a bronze medal. The football tournament there were 8 different schools and 4 pitches it was at the Heath high and it was on the astro turf.

This year has been a big year for year 6, because it was our last christmas production with Gorsewood Primary School. Our christmas play was Bah Humbug, Harley was Jacob Marley and Alex  was Scrooge. We also have excited news like Harley passing his grade 1 in clarinet - a first for Gorsewood!
